Food dehydrator reviews are an absolute must for anybody looking to get into the wonderful world of preserving food through dehydration.
On this page I’ll be going over the benefits of dehydration as well as how to go about doing it. If you’d like, you can skip this and go straight to my food dehydrator reviews.
Dehydrating food is the process of drying out the food so that it will not spoil as quickly. Although you may lose some vitamins during this process, you will be able to keep food for years without refrigeration.
The same food that you would not have gotten any vitamins from, (due to it going bad before you eat it), will now be able to be eaten throughout the year.
This is perfect for those that garden each summer. You’ll be able to dehydrate foods like blue berries, strawberries, and many other fruits and veggies that you grow during the growing season.
The advantage to dehydrating food over canning it is that you do not have to buy canning jars and you can simply take small amounts of dehydrated food out as you go. I personally like to take dehydrated strawberries and add them to my cereal or my oatmeal.
Although dehydrating fruit is what most people think of when food dehydrator reviews are mentioned, meat can also be dehydrated. This is important to think about when reading through food dehydrator reviews.
Meats can be dehydrated which will quickly turn them into delicious jerkys that you can snack on throughout the year. Many deer and boar hunters love to take advantage of this feature of the food dehydrator. It dramatically helps cut down on the amount of meat that needs to be frozen and gives you a high protein snack.
You’ll also find that their are two kinds of dehydrator reviews you might want to look into. The first is the electric dehydrator and the second is the solar dehydrator. On this page we’ll be reviewing the former.
When making these food dehydrator reviews I evaluated reliability, durability, ease of use, and the cost to buy them. Below are my top two picks for you to consider.

The Excalibur 3900 Deluxe Series 9 Tray Food Dehydrator
This food dehydrator is at the top of my food dehydrator reviews because it has nine large trays that make it incredibly easy to use.
In addition to this, the design of this dehydrator is perfect for dehydrating all of the food at an even rate. This is important because an uneven dehydrator will cause you to lose some fruit while dehydrator.
Another great feature is that it has a ten year warranty. This means that even if the dehydrator dies at the end of the tenth year, you’ll have paid less than 2 dollars a month to use it.

The Nesco/American Harvest FD-80 Square-Shaped Dehydrator
You’ll notice that this dehydrator is priced dramatically lower than the Excalibur models. The reason for this is that it does not dehydrate nearly as much at once, and will not accommodate thick slices of fruit and meat like the Excalibur.
This being said, this dehydrator gets the job done and will out perform all of the round dehydrator models on the market. Its design allows for good air flow and even cooking, so you’ll know you won’t lose any food during the dehydrating process.
You won’t get more than a one year warranty out of this product, but it would surprise me if you didn’t get at least a few good years of dehydrating from this dehydrator, after all it is a Nesco.
